This set of charts can reveal the pathways workers are taking to transition into new roles while comparing skills gaps between transition roles. View where workers are coming from, where they are going, and where they could be.
The data in these charts also provides insight into potential wage gains for STARs.

Understanding the data available
Left side: Transitional role pathways chart
The default view of this chart demonstrates the potential transitional journey for a worker using a point of origination as the source job (jobs preparing a worker with transferable skills), the Selected job, and potential transitional roles (the destination job).
The data and coloring of the pathway between the jobs show data about workers. Hover on the left column over the source job to view:
- The estimated number of workers in that role
- The percentage of workers in that role estimated to be STARs
Hover over the space between the source and the selected job to view:
- The estimated number of workers transitioning from the source job to the selected job
- The color coding provides insight into the wage levels between roles (to demonstrate the increased earning potential for STARs). Use the key at the bottom of the chart to refer to the color shading in the definitions.
Hover over one of the Destination job pathways to view:
- The estimated number of workers transitioning from the selected job to a destination job.
Right side: Comparative skill chart
The web chart on the right demonstrates the skill match between roles and the alignment or gaps in skills, which enables a hiring employer to identify potential training opportunities and the expertise they can expect when hiring STARs.
The chart includes:
- A skill match rating between the two roles, listed at the top
- The estimated number of workers transitioning between the two roles annually
- A web structured by transferable skills between the two roles
- A key showing which web overlay relates to which role
Hover over a skill on the web to view:
- The expected skill level for the source job
- The expected skill level for the selected job
Using these charts together
- Click on any pathway available in the chart on the left. This can be a source job for the selected job or the selected job for a destination job.
- The web chart on the right will update the skills for the two roles selected with the pathway.
- Use the color-coded web chart to assess which transferable skill levels meet the expectations of the selected job, which skills reveal opportunities for training, and what expertise workers can bring to a selected job.
